I woke up this morning to find my grandmother in the kitchen reading Nerd Fitness.
Grandma doesn’t own a computer, so today was her first chance to read over all of the comments and stories about the article from last week about my grandfather (her husband). It was pretty touching to watch her read over everybody’s responses on what they’re doing to live a life worth living, inspired by my grampy’s passing. If you left a comment, thank you. I know it’s already made her day, while also bringing tears to my Mom and Dad’s eyes.
Thanks.
After closing down the comments on Monday night I plugged the responses into a random number generator and picked the five winners of the contest. They’ll each receive a deluxe edition of the Rebel Fitness Guide, a copy of Unautomate Your Finances from ManVsDebt, and a copy of Chris Guillebeau’s excellent “the Art of Nonconformity.”
Here are your five winners:
- Dayna L. who wants to become a professional wrestler.
- Matt S. who is leaving a job he doesn’t love to travel to Australia in January.
- Kelly O. who wants to learn how to drive.
- Karassa, who hopes to move out of Cleveland for the first time ever by heading to the West Coast.
- Bill, who is learning to speak Lao so he can converse with his wife’s parents.
My favorite part about all of the responses: they were all over the place! From driving a motorcycle cross-country, to learning a new language, to adopting a child, everybody is trying to do something special that will improve their life or the lives of those around them. If you’re in the need of some inspiration, go ahead and read through the responses after the article.
Moral of the story: in this day and age, there is nothing you can’t accomplish if you’re willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen. Life is too short to keep waiting, so go take care of business NOW.
Unconventional Guides
I got an email last night from Chris Guillebeau (yeah, the guy I can’t stop talking about). In honor of Thanksgiving, he’s giving a 15% discount on every single one of his unconventional guides. Simply use the discount code “PUMPKIN” between now and Monday at midnight to get 15% off any product in the store.
I can’t say enough good things about what Chris has created, especially his Frequent Flyer Master guide. Since buying it last year, I’ve become a travel-hacking addict. I’m in the process of booking a trip right now using airline miles that will blow your mind. I don’t want to jinx it until I actually pull the trigger, but expect a post in the next few weeks hopefully detailing a ridiculous trip that will help me cross off a crazy amount of things from my Epic List of Awesome.
All his products come with a 100% money back guarantee too. So, if you’re on the fence about picking up one of them…this is the weekend to get it done!
Nerd Fitness T-Shirts
They are coming! I’ve met with Decatur Screenprint over the past few weeks, and hammered out all of the details on how this t-shirt process is actually going to work. The shirts will be printed on super soft American Apparel track-shirts, with the faded NF logo on the front, and then a small NF logo and web url in the middle of the upper back. It will definitely be the most comfortable shirt you’ve ever worn.
Believe it or not, I’m not actually made of money or raking in millions of dollars through Nerd Fitness (…yet :)), so I can’t buy a whole bunch of shirts up front; I just don’t have the funds So, beginning early next week, I’ll have a small pre-sale window for people to pre-order the shirts (which will start shipping the following week). To say thanks, I’ll be sending out a personalized hand-written/drawn note with each shirt that’s pre-ordered.
If you’re a fan of Nerd Fitness, consider supporting the site by picking up a Nerd Fitness shirt next week. They’ll be available in both men’s and women’s sizes for $20 with free-shipping to anywhere in the United States, or for $30 with free-shipping to anywhere in the world. Woohoo for simplicity!
Thank You
Last but not least, I want to say thanks. Thanks for reading Nerd Fitness. This website has changed my life and brought together a pretty incredible community of people. Thanks for spreading the word and sharing articles you find interesting. Thanks for emailing me and telling me your successes and challenges -I LOVE hearing from you.
Thanks for pushing yourself to be a better person. Thanks for working hard to level up your life. Thanks for inspiring me to try and make this world a better place.
Thank you.
Hopefully you’re eating too much, drinking too much, and passing out on the living room couch watching football. Don’t worry about calorie counts, carbs, sugar, whatever. Spend time with your family and loved ones, have some fun, and get back to leveling up your life tomorrow.
-Steve
