Greetings from the Tampa airport, today’s mobile office! I just came off four days of awesomeness on board Rombello, a floating music festival put on by my friends over at Sixthman. I’m going to be honest with you – I drank more than a few beers, I barely slept, I made a sizable donation to the onboard casino, and I ate a boatload of bad food. My legs are tired from too much dancing, my eyes are heavy from staying up til six AM, and my voice is shot from singing along (thanks Gaelic Storm, you jerks)
I am more than okay with all of this.
Why?
Because I know that one bad meal doesn’t define me. One missed workout doesn’t make me fall apart. One unhealthy weekend does not send me into a downward spiral.
… and because I still managed to level up my life while in Mexico.
Who goes to Passion Island, the place where they film Corona commercials, and exercises? Nerd Fitness rebels, that’s who – 28 handstand push ups (12 in a row – a new record!), 30 pull ups overlooking the Caribbean, and a quick barefoot run up and down the beach. Total workout time: 20 minutes.
Life happens. Sh** happens. Awesome happens. There will be instances where you will only have an option of eating unhealthy food. There will be times when you’ll have to skip a workout because your kid got sick or your wife had to go to the hospital or there was a zombie apocalypse. And sometimes, you’ll have an opportunity to party your ass off for a great celebration or vacation.
Do it. And don’t feel bad about it. As long as your unhealthy moments are minor blips rather than regular occurrences and you squeeze your workouts in whenever and wherever you can, all of that momentum you’ve worked so hard to build will continue to push you forward. These small disturbances will only derail you on the path to awesome if you let them.
Do the best you can, with what you have, where you are.
Do something. Do anything. And then freaking get back to work!
The adventure continues
I woke up this morning, put on my metaphorical hard hat, and I’m already back at work. Today I begin another few months of epic travel around North America, I start my next quest to pack on 10-15 pounds of muscle by the end of the year, and bust my ass to continue helping as many people as possible level up their lives – almost 10,000 subscribers!
You know how I make a lot of decisions these days based on what kind of story it’ll get me? Kind of like this one? Well, I’m in Tampa right now, I fly to Washington, DC tonight, and then tomorrow…I fly to Alaska for a total of 25 hours.
Why? Well, mostly for some travel hacking wizardry – the flight was relatively cheap, I have a voucher from US Air for taking a voluntary bump on a previous flight, and this one flight will give me preferred status with the airline through 2013…hello free first class upgrades!
But ALSO for the story! Who the hell flies to Alaska for one freaking day?
This guy!
So, I’ll spend all day Wednesday in Anchorage. What the heck should I do? Where should I go? Do I need to rent a car? What epic landmark should I exercise in front of?
If you happen to live in Alaska and are free to meet up, I’d love to do a Nerd Fitness meet up on Wednesday night! Please email me at [email protected] with ALASKA in the subject line and let me know if you want to meet up/can help me put it together!
News and notes
Just a few other quick things to mention: tonight at midnight is the deadline for getting into Another Kick Ass Contest when you buy the Rebel Running Guide – check it out if you’re interested in becoming a better runner and remaining injury free!
I placed a big order for a whole bunch of Nerd Fitness hoodies late last week! Decatur Screenprint still has to bring in the shirts, print, and ship them up to me, but I’ll keep everybody updated over these next few posts on how the orders are coming and when they’ll start shipping out. Thanks for your patience!
After Alaska, I head down to Atlanta for a week or so – I know we have a lot of rebels in the ATL area so keep an eye out on Facebook for an NF Atlanta meet up!
For the rebellion,
-Steve
