make me want to go and learn to work with free weights. I had no idea
what I was doing either (plus I think cardio+machines in gym is boring)
so I just focus other sports (running, climbing, spinning). I already
realized that machine work does not give me the results I want, now if
just a couple of squats ARE going to make the difference I'd go further with this :) Props to your writing skills, very motivational.

Details: I'm 19, female, 5'5", 105lbs. My goal is to be more toned. I don't feel like weight loss is as important of a focus for me as is becoming stronger, fitter, and leaner.
I'm certainly interested in toning and fat-loss, but I'm concerned that squats will build up too much thigh muscle. I used to be on a rowing team (where quad build-up is part of the sport) and I've read about reducing "pumping" exercises to reduce muscle mass.
Are squats still the right work out for me? I'd love to improve my back and core strength and toning and I do think that comprehensive workouts will be best for me.
Thanks!

(Thank you for all of these great articles!)<br

Train 3 times per week. Start off week one with 15 reps and say 10kg total. In second training session, increase this to 12kg total. So Mon 10kg, Wed 12kg Fri 15kg, Mon 18kg Wed 20kg Fri 22kg
In the third week, reduce reps to 10 but sets same (2x). Same principle as above, but think about what you think your maximum will be next Friday and work backwards from there (meaning the first Monday will be very easy!!).
Week 5, you are down to 5 reps per set. On the Friday next, you would have been lifting your maximum for the 6 week period. Make sense?

Two sets is fine. This doesn't seem like very much.

What should an average woman be aiming for, in terms of weight?
