isPermaLink="false">http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/?p=1924#comment-416

Hey Dino,
Thanks for the kind words! If you're a skinny guy and want to build more muscle, cardio is your enemy. Programs like p90x are designed for the 95% of people out there trying to lose weight. As a skinny guy, you should cut back on cardio almost completely, and instead run sprints on days when you're not exercising. 20 minutes of sprints (jog for 90 seconds, sprint for 30, jog for 90, sprint for 30). For you to gain muscle as a skinny guy, concentrate on compound exercises (incline dumbbell lift, bench press, pull ups, dead lifts, squats) and just eat. Eat all day long (lots of protein and carbs).
You'll put on a little bit of fat with the muscle, but that can be shed after you get to your desired weight (which is where you keep eating the same, maybe cut out some of your carbs, and even increase the number of sprints). Shoot me an email at stevek@nerdfitness.com if you need more advice and I can tell you what my exact routines have been to go from 162 lbs to now 185, and decrease my body fat from 11% down to 9% and continuing to drop.
As far as a technique to measure your body fat, go to this site and buy one of these: http://www.accumeasurefitness.com/products/fitness3000.html they are the best tool (other than expensive scientific testing) to get your body fat, and it's only 20 bucks. It's extremely accurate and very easy. I have one and love it.

From what I see they only get you really cut and gives you crazy endurance, but do you really think you can do these type of work outs and still gain muscle? I'm a pretty skinny guy and want to gain more muscle, but feel like all the cardio from these programs get me just leaner. Also, do you think you can add a technique to measure body fat? Or is that only done at a clinic?? Great blog btw :)

What’s your opinion on crossfit, gym jones, and p90x??
