EG, is it:
1) This: warmup, 75%, fall back to warmup speed, 80%, fall back to warmup speed, 85%, fall back to warmup speed, and so on.
or
2) That: warmup, 75% max effort, warmup speed, 80% effort, fall back to 75%, 85%, fall back to 80%, and so on.

Please explain the ‘decreased effort’ part. isPermaLink="false">http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/?p=81#comment-6644

The priority of interval "quality" training over steady consistent mileage was the demise of American distance running in the late 80s and 90s. It is NOT interval vs. mileage training but a healthy mix of both, with the world's best runners showing that more importance on the latter is much more important. Scientific results were the reason people started thinking they could drop mileage and still be competitive. They weren't. Talk to any informed coach of distance running and you will see that consistent mileage is much more important than intervals.
This being said, if you aren't trying to a competitive distance runner and just looking for good ways to motivate yourself to go out and run then it doesn't matter as long as your running. I don't care how.

The priority of interval “quality” training over steady consistent mileage was the demise of American distance running in the late 80s and 90s.
